History and Ownership of the Market
Penelakut Tribe purchased the business formerly known as 49th Parallel General store, which is now known as Spune’luxutth Holdings Incorporated DBA Chemainus Salish Sea Market. The purchase of the business took place in February of 2020, and since then has been working at developing inventory for ‘our’ customers as well as visitors. The goal for the business is to develop a sustainable model that will benefit the 3 P’s: People, Planet, as well as Profit.
The store has been a central hub that serves its local communities: Chemainus, Thetis Island, Penelakut Island, and those that are passing through. The concept of the business was to continue operations ‘as-is’, and to build partnerships so that we can further develop a market-ready service.
